Boys Varsity Football · McClelland, Kremer Earn All State Recognition

Junior QB Matthew McClelland and Senior WR Owen Kremer recently earned all state recognition from the 2A conference. The duo led the Chargers back to 11 man and 2A football in 2020. The Chargers finished 2-4, with narrow losses to playoff teams San Tan Charter and Glendale Prep.

McClelland was named 1st Team All State at Quarterback. He led the conference in total yards and yards per game with an eye popping 398.8  per game. He proved himself as a dual threat, totaling 261 yds/game through the air and over 137 on the ground. McClelland found the end zone 22 times in ’20, 12 in the air and 10 with the run game. He averaged 8.4 yards per carry on 98 runs. He also stood out on defense for the Chargers, averaging 10 tackles a game (60 total), as well as two INT’s and a fumble recovery.

Kremer earned Honorable Mention recognition as a wide receiver. He finished 3rd in the conference in total yards (fewer games played) and led the conference in yards per game at 109. He caught 39 passes for 659 yards, for an average of 16.9 per catch. Owen also contributed 26 tackles and 2 INT’s as a defensive back.
