Multiple Teams · 2019 Charger of the Year Spotlight: Pierce Garver

Congratulations to our 2019 HS Male Charger of the Year, Pierce Garver!

Pierce earned 3 Varsity letters this year, excelling in Football, Basketball, and Baseball.  He served as a captain for each team, leading Arete Prep athletics to one of their most successful years in school history. Football qualified for the 1A State playoffs, earning their first victory and advancing to the State Quarterfinals before falling to Mogollon. Pierce was named 1st Team All Region as a Linebacker, tallying 59 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 4 fumble recoveries (1 for TD.) He was also named 2nd Team All Region as an interior offensive lineman, serving as the anchor of a strong Charger running attack.

Garver was a starting post player for the Varsity Basketball team, who had their most successful season in program history, winning the 1A East Region Tournament and advancing to the 1A State Final Eight.

In the spring, Pierce led an inexperienced Varsity Baseball squad to the 1A State Playoffs, earning 1st team All Region honors as a starting pitcher. He struck out 75 batters in 55 innings, and boasted a 3.95 ERA. He also batted .419 at the plate.

In his Charger Career, Garver earned an astonishing 12 Varsity letters (4 in basketball, 4 in baseball, 3 in football, and 1 in X-Country.) Even more impressive, Pierce earned a 3.77 GPA upon graduation.

Next up for Pierce, is an appointment to the West Point, where he will head in late July. He intends to major in physics and have an MOS in infantry. Garver hopes to receive the 101st airborne upon graduation from West Point, and also hopes to participate in combatives or sandhurst competition.

What Pierce will remember most about athletics at Arete Prep?
“The cohesion in Arete athletics along with the leadership opportunities made sports special. Being able to build a sort of brotherhood bond with my teams has impacted me greatly and will be something I will carry with me into my military career.”

What advice does he leave for future Charger student athletes?

If you are unsatisfied with your current situation, change it to what you want it to be through hard work, and persistence. And remember that in every endeavor it is necessary to be a team player and keep your team mates close. You never accomplish anything alone.

Congratulations again to our 2019 Male Charger of the Year, Pierce Garver. He has left a lasting impact on our programs and campus and we could not be more proud of his past, present, and future!
